10 Actors Who Instantly Regretted Movie Roles
1. Tom Hanks Soon Asks "What Have I Done?" - Elvis
While many have been quick to salute the remarkable work committed to Baz Luhrmann's Elvis by Austin Butler in his captivating portrayal of the titular hip-shaker, the supposed top-billed player heading into the flick hasn't had quite the same warm reception.
Largely drowned in prosthetics and muffled by a bizarre Dutch-American accent, Tom Hanks' showing as Elvis Presley's infamous manager Colonel Tom Parker was definitely not the sort of typically thrilling work fans have grown used to seeing from the legend.
And as it goes, Hanks himself clearly had his doubts about whether the Colonel was the right fit for him before even agreeing to appear in the biopic, telling folks at the Cannes Film Festival that he was initially reluctant to agree to play something of a Bond villain.
However, the director was able to ironically convince Hanks to come aboard by selling him on the idea of playing the Colonel as a “great carney", leading to the star exclaiming "I’m your man — now, please, show me a picture."
It was here when Luhrmann unveiled how Parker actually looked to Hanks, only for the Oscar-winner to immediately wonder "Oh, my God, what have I done?”
Which is ironically what most people found themselves muttering upon taking in the usually dependable star during one of his least effective turns to date.
