10 Actors Who Just Recently Did Their Best Work Ever
4. Hugh Grant - Heretic
Hugh Grant just keeps getting better and better with age. In his younger years, he was very much typecast as the bumbling romantic lead in movies like Four Weddings and a Funeral, Love Actually, and Notting Hill, and while he did those roles well, he didn't necessarily seem like an actor with that much range. Well, aging out of those types of roles has motivated Grant to broaden his horizons, and the film and TV world is a richer place for it. Over the last few years, Hugh has delivered many astonishing performances on both the big screen and the small, and Heretic might just be his finest work yet.
Grant might've seemed like an odd casting choice for a deranged killer... but only to those who hadn't seen some of his more recent performances. Despite his likability in early roles, Grant has thrived on playing villains throughout the last few years. From his hysterically funny turns in Paddington 2 to his rich, brilliantly repulsive lead performance as sleazeball politician Jeremy Thorpe in A Very English Scandal, Hugh Grant can always be relied upon to deliver a memorable on-screen antagonist.
Grant's work in Heretic is a sight to behold, and he's utterly terrifying throughout, playing Mr. Reed - an intelligent and charming yet chillingly evil psychopath - to absolute perfection. Heretic isn't a particularly great movie and completely loses its way in the second half, yet it still has the honour of containing Hugh Grant's best performance to date.
