A ton of stars out there were all doing their best to convince James Gunn they were the person for the Star- Lord job coming into the MCU's first Guardians of the Galaxy project. And along with thespians such as Zachary Levi and Glenn Howerton, a performer who would actually end up appearing in that first volume also auditioned for the role of Peter Quill - a part eventually secured by Chris Pratt, of course.

All the way back in 2012, none other than eventual Ronan the Accuser himself Lee Pace actually revealed he was trying to land the role of the Celestial-Human Guardian of the Galaxy. In a conversation with MTV, The Hobbit star admitted he'd been reading up on the one-time Ravager before stating that the character was "a lot of fun" and the he "hopes it works out."

And it sort of did... in a way.

Sure, he didn't end up being cast as that loveable fool in the end. But Pace did still do enough to earn himself the part of the flick's ruthless big bad Kree, and even popped up in Captain Marvel a few years later, too.
