10 Actors Who Lost Roles For Insane Reasons
7. Michael Keaton's Marriage Made Michelle Pfeiffer Uncastable - Batman (1989)
Sean Young was originally cast in Tim Burton's 1989 Batman as love interest Vicki Vale, but after injuring herself in a horse-riding accident, Warner Bros. rushed to find a replacement.
Producer Jon Peters was keen to have Michelle Pfeiffer play Vale, but this was vetoed by star Michael Keaton, who had previously dated Pfeiffer and didn't want her casting to potentially interfere with his efforts to get back together with his estranged wife, Caroline McWilliams.
Keaton was said to be firmly against Pfeiffer's casting, enough that it led to an argument with producer Peters, though ultimately Keaton won out.
And so, Kim Basinger was brought in to play Vicki Vale.
As for Keaton's marriage, he and McWilliams divorced in 1990, leaving the door wide open for Pfeiffer to play Catwoman in 1992's sequel Batman Returns without repeating the same drama.
Considering that casting Pfeiffer as Vale would've presumably deprived the world of her Catwoman, it's honestly tough to feel bad about any of this.
