10 Actors Who Made A Terrible Movie Right After Winning An Oscar
2. Julia Roberts - The Mexican (2001)
Won An Oscar For: Erin Brockovich (2000) To date, Julia Roberts is still yet to give a performance as brilliantly human as the one in Erin Brockovich, playing the eponymous single mom who sets out to sue a major corporation when she suspects foul play. She picked up the Academy Award for her turn, of course, and rightly so. You'd have thought, then, that - in the wake of Oscar glory - teaming up with Brad Pitt for a thrilling romantic comedy set in Mexico was a good choice. Sadly, The Mexican - directed by Gore Verbinski of Pirates Of The Caribbean fame - proved to be a mostly disappointing affair about a small-time criminal and his girlfriend searching for an antique gun. Worst of all, perhaps, is the lack of chemistry shared between Roberts and Pitt; after being separated for much of the film, when they finally do come together they move from one contrived scenario to another, but never really click in the way that the film requires. It was a box office hit, of course, but not a film deserving of Julia Robert's talents.
