10 Actors Who Must Play Spider-Man Villains In The MCU
6. David Hyde Pierce As Mysterio
Real Name: Quentin Beck
First Appearance: The Amazing Spider-Man #13 (1964)
Alternative: William Fichtner
While the Frasier actor may seem like an out there choice, he was once rumored to take up the role of the Riddler in the Nolanverse of Batman films. Since then it has been hard to shake the notion of him taking on a sinister turn. With Quentin Beck being an out and out showman, the flamboyance of Pierce makes him the No.1 choice as Mysterio. Similarly with William Fichtner, he has an understated tone of something more serious lying underneath and was too once tipped to be Edward Nygma.
A live action Mysterio is an absolute must for the MCU, and for this you can't help but look at the Christopher Nolan films. Watching The Prestige you can see how trickery and magic can be done without looking cheesy. Now imagine a Spider-Man outing where Mysterio is the hyper-realistic magician who is all illusions and danger. Using robotic doubles, stagecraft, and hypnotism, Mysterio is effectively just an SFX magician, but the character goes on to be so much more.
We could even see the Spidey films take on the Ultimate Marvel Universe storyline if we want to explore more universes again. Doctor Strange cast a spell over the box office, so take those mind-bending tricks and stick them in a Mysterio storyline for a winning formula. Mysterio is the walking, talking, snowglobe you don't want for Christmas.
