First: Alien cockroach wearing a human corpse and bent on world domination, Edgar in Men In Black.

But Then: Grumpy gangland kingpin bent on Hell's Kitchen domination, Wilson Fisk in Daredevil.

How Did It Work Out?

Often forgotten as a movie based on a Marvel property, Men In Black's source, Lowell Cunningham's The Men In Black comic, was originally published by Malibu Comics but acquired by Marvel in 1994, while the film adaptation was in development.

The original 1997 film remains comfortably the best in the trilogy and a lot of that is down to its superior choice of villain. D'Onofrio's slapstick, rubber faced performance as a decomposing corpse worn by an alien bug is definitely a large part of what made the film so successful.

The Full Metal Jacket star's range is evident from his role in Netflix's Daredevil, which has a very different kind of physicality in a character that is awkward in an Aspergers-esque fashion. (In contrast, Men In Black co-star Tommy Lee Jones stuck very much to grizzled, humourless mentor type in his transfer to the MCU in Captain America).

Both villains are memorable roles for D'Onofrio, but it is perhaps the more nuanced Fisk that is the more intriguing, a character that fans will be keen to see more of.
