10 Actors Who Played Multiple Marvel Roles
3. Evan Peters & Aaron Taylor-Johnson
First: Comic book geeks Dave Lizewski and Todd Haynes turned comic book heroes Kick-Ass and Ass-Kicker in Kick-Ass (and Kick-Ass 2 for Taylor-Johnson).
But Then: Bratty youngster Pietro (or Peter) Maximoff turned heroic super-speedster Quicksilver in X-Men: Days Of Future Past (for Peters), and Captain America: The Winter Soldier and Avengers: Age of Ultron (for Taylor-Johnson).
How Did It Work Out?
One of the quirks of the film rights to Marvel properties existing in multiple different hands is that we can end up with two different takes on the same character if they happen to be, say, a mutant and an Avenger. That's why former Kick-Ass co-stars Taylor-Johnson and Peters found themselves on opposite ends of a scrap over the character of Magneto's son Quicksilver between Fox's X-Men series and Marvel Studios' Avengers.
Taylor-Johnson had been obviously the bigger star beforehand, enjoying the lead role in the subversive, creative Kick-Ass, while Peters supporting part was recast before he could suit up as the derivative Ass-Kicker in the pointless sequel. As Quicksilver, however, their roles were reversed. While Taylor-Johnson proved literally nothing more than disposable in this summer's Avengers, Peters' brief role in Days Of Future Past was the standout sequence of the movie. There are not immediate plans for either version of the character to return in their respective sequels, however.
