Nicolas Cage has entered a phase of his career in which he has gone so far past the point of parody that he just doesn't fit into any movie with it alerting you to his presence in a really annoying way (Sam Jackson is dangerously close, but has managed to avoid this because - as far as it's possible to tell, anyway - he can still act, at least). For a while, it was hilarious to see him Cage popping up in stuff and delivering questionable performance after questionable performance, but now he's just a plainly distracting presence, which means that he's bound to feel at odds with the upcoming Edward Snowden biopic, Snowden, which also stars Joseph Gordon-Levitt and Shailene Woodley. God knows why director Oliver Stone - who is adapting the film from the book The Snowden Files by Luke Hardy - opted to cast Nicolas Cage as a former U.S. intelligence officer (currently unnamed), because who's going to buy that in a serious and important film like this? Here's hoping that he only features in a small role, as to only ruin the film a bit. Like this article? Think some of these casting choices are unjustified?
