10 Actors Who Refused To Make Sacrifices For Roles
6. Hugh Jackman Didn't Like Not Having A Say - Casino Royale
Keeping in the vein of 007's who were never to be, here's another Hollywood action sensation who just couldn't bring themselves to make a substantial sacrifice to play the legendary James Bond.
Instead of being told by his beloved partner that they wouldn't be walking down the aisle if he picked up a pistol, though, Hugh Jackman's reason behind refusing to become the second cinematic Australian MI6 super spy revolved more around the way he wanted the character to be presented going forward.
Around the time the Wolverine star was being considered for the part in the mid-2000's, the Bond scripts had become, as Jackman put it, "unbelievable and crazy" and the actor wanted to help usher the icon into a "grittier and real” next chapter. But these suggestions were quickly shot down by the producers, with Jackman being told that he wasn't going to have a say in the direction the character would go should he sign on.
Not content with sacrificing his own vision of what the character should be, Jackman respectfully declined, only for Daniel Craig to pump that exact same energy into his rendition of the famous badass Brit.
