2. Tom Hanks Rides The Ferris Wheel With Elvis - Elvis

There's a lot to like about Baz Luhrmann's high-octane 2022 Elvis drama.

Austin Butler knocks it out of the park as 'The King', and the director ensures you spend the majority of 159-minute flick feeling like you're trapped on a pulsating, emotional, and musical rollercoaster.

However, there is one aspect of this Elvis experience that unfortunately drags down much of the otherwise quite gripping dive into Elvis Presley's life: Tom Hanks' bizarre work as Colonel Tom Parker.

Adopting the strangest Dutch accent you're ever likely to come across in a movie theatre, the usually reliable Hanks seems determined to produce a turn more reminiscent of a moustache-twirling villain than a real-life figure.

In particular, the scene that sees the Colonel trying to convince Elvis to let him help the young lad become a star is one of the worst Hanks has ever found himself in the middle of.

Sounding absolutely nothing like Parker did in reality, Hanks goes all in on presenting the Colonel as a diabolical carney. But his deeply hammy performance, whilst perched on a Ferris wheel and jumping to important events in the future, feels like it belongs in a completely different movie and is simply one of the many distracting Hanks moments on show in the picture.

It was here when many unexpectedly regretted their decision to get on this hip-shaking ride in the first place.
