As much as many would love to see it, it is looking less and less likely that we will get to see Idris Elba be James Bond himself. But, that doesn’t mean he can’t play the villain someday.

Elba has got a lot to offer a role like this, and he can give most actors working today a run for their money. Even in roles that could be flat one dimensional, he still manages to bring that extra something and make them far more memorable than they should be.

Also, while it goes without saying, the man is an absolute beast! You honestly believe, if he wanted to, he could smash you into the middle of next week. When was the last time you could legitimately say that about the big bad in a Bond film?

With that in mind, what sort of villain would allow Elba to apply his range, as well as his physical dominance? One option that fits the bill would be to make him a rouge MI6 agent, specifically, Bonds mentor and a former 007.

This would create a great dynamic between the two characters, involving betrayal and conflicting emotions, especially with younger incarnation of Bond. Indeed, the ultimate arch the film could be the young Bond having to conquer his past in order to become the real 007.

It would also mean we would technically get to see Elba take on the role of 007, just not as we expected.
