1. Jared Leto
Along with the report that claimed David Ayer's rewrite of the Suicide Squad script would include the Joker came the rumor that Jared Leto had already been offered the role. After being repeatedly linked to Doctor Strange, it would seem that the Academy Award-winning actor has become less particular about the projects he signs on to, and is even actively looking for a big-budget franchise to star in. Along with being the top choice for the part, Leto also makes a strong case as the best possible choice. Despite possessing leading man looks, Leto has taken very few main roles during his career, instead building up an eclectic filmography of character-based roles, from piling on the pounds to play John Lennon's killer Mark Chapman to his unrecognizable transformation in Dallas Buyers Club. The actor's filmography certainly proves that he is intensely dedicated to his craft, fully inhabiting the characters that he plays and often making physical sacrifices in order to enhance his performances. There is no doubt that an actor as dedicated as Leto would be able to put a fresh and unique spin on the Clown Prince of Crime, and turn the complex and challenging role into something markedly different but just as memorable as the work done by Jack Nicholson and Heath Ledger. The assumption is that signing on as the Joker would lead to multiple appearances in the DC Cinematic Universe, which would surely include villainous duties in the next standalone Batman feature and although he doesn't look it, Leto is the same age as Ben Affleck at 42 and could feasibly play the character several times over the next decade. However, the only drawback would be the actor's hectic schedule; as frontman of 30 Seconds to Mars, the actor dedicates a lot of his time to his musical endeavors and as a result, Dallas Buyers Club was his first feature film credit in four years. That being said, if compromises can be reached then Jared Leto could prove to be pitch-perfect casting for a new cinematic interpretation of the Joker.
