10 Actors Who Should Play The Joker In Suicide Squad
2. Jake Gyllenhaal
After the critical and commercial disappointment that greeted Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time, Jake Gyllenhaal decided to stay away from big-budget movies and focus more on character-orientated work. The decision has paid off in spades, with the actor delivering some of the best performances of his career in the last several years, showcasing previously-untapped range and versatility with a string of critically-acclaimed roles. After almost replacing Tobey Maguire in Spider-Man 2 and being linked to Doctor Strange, Gyllenhaal could very well get his shot at appearing in a comic book movie by taking on the role of the Joker. The actor's recent body of work has firmly established him as a talent working at the top of their game; Source Code, End of Watch, Prisoners, Enemy and Nightcrawler all feature vastly different yet equally accomplished performances, with the latter in particular being labelled as the best of his career and generating plenty of awards buzz. It has been claimed that after such intense character work the 33 year-old is looking to get back into the blockbuster business, and while it may have seemed ridiculous a few years ago the thought of Jake Gyllenhaal taking over the mantle of the Joker is now an intriguing one, given how he has successfully reinvented himself over the last few years as one of the industry's most consistent performers.
I don't do social media, so like or follow me in person but please maintain a safe distance or the authorities will be notified. Don't snap me though, I'll probably break. I was once labelled a misogynist on this very site in a twenty paragraph-long rant for daring to speak ill of the Twilight franchise. I stand by what I said, it's crap.
