10. Adrien Brody
After becoming the youngest Best Actor winner in the history of the Academy Awards when he picked up the prize for his role in The Pianist at just 29, many were predicting that Adrien Brody would go on to firmly establish himself as one of the finest talents of his generation. Unfortunately the opposite happened, and a series of poor career choices have seen the actor star in a string of underwhelming and forgettable movies that have almost resulted in a slide into total obscurity. Taking on the role of the Joker could both resurrect the actor's flagging career, as well as reminding people of his undoubted talents. Brody was said to be in the running for the role in The Dark Knight before Heath Ledger was cast, and it's easy to see why. The actor has great range and versatility, something that hasn't quite been reflected in his recent filmography. His tall, wiry frame and unconventional features would lend themselves well to a different interpretation of the Joker, potentially offering a more withdrawn and cerebral take on the character than Ledger or Jack Nicholson's scene-stealing performances. The Joker is a villain that doesn't need to pose a physical threat, and Adrien Brody is more than capable of delivering an eccentric, intelligent and intense take on the Clown Prince of Crime that would be markedly different to the previous incarnations of the character, and also rehabilitate his career in the process.
