10 Actors Who Should Replace Ben Affleck As Batman

There was a time when the idea of Jake Gyllenhaal tackling Batman would have been downright offensive, but he was in the running for Christopher Nolan's trilogy alongside Christian Bale and a raft of other young actors. It wouldn't have ben right at that stage of his career, but since then he's added a considerable number of impressive notches to his belt that have confirmed he has greater depth and range than he ever showed in his early career.

He's had a great run since he missed out on the role, making Brokeback Mountain, Jarhead, Zodiac, Brothers, Source Code, Prisoners, Enemy, Nightcrawler, Southpaw and Nocturnal Animals. And yet somehow he still doesn't seem to have hit the same sort of level as a Christian Bale.

That profile issue shouldn't worry him, as he makes incredibly astute career moves, for the most part, and he is increasingly proving that he can flex his acting muscles in unexpected ways, jumping genres and performance types with apparent ease. And he's blossomed with a sort of off-kilter quirkiness that would definitely suit the not-quite-of-our-world ideal image of Batman too.
