10 Actors Who Sound NOTHING Like You Would Imagine

6. Anna Paquin

True Blood Sookie
HBO

Anna Paquin has had outstanding acting career since she was a child. (She even managed to bag an Oscar at age 11,) but for many years, the Canadian-born actress was best-known for playing Rogue in the X-Men franchise.

Partly because Paquin did such a good job performing Rogue's southern accent, she was cast as southern belle, Sookie Stackhouse, in the vampire series, True Blood. After appearing in X-Men films for 14 years and starring in over 80 episodes of True Blood, it's difficult to disassociate Paquin from the southern twang.

But the accent isn't natural to her. Paquin moved to New Zealand at a young age, where she developed a Kiwi accent. When she moved to the States, she picked up a California timbre but still maintains a few New Zealand inflections.

Even though she's adopted the southern accent for over a decade in multiple projects, you'd assume it comes second-nature to her. However, she avoids speaking to her mother on the phone while filming since she'll instinctively dip back into the Kiwi dialect, which she finds difficult to shake it off.
