10 Actors Who Spent FOREVER Preparing For Tiny Movie Roles

5. Charlie Sheen - Ferris Bueller's Day Off

Charlie Sheen had a rather unique method to prepare for his small role in Ferris Bueller's Day Off as hunky troublemaker Garth Volbeck - who briefly crosses paths with Ferris' (Matthew Broderick) sister Jeanie (Jennifer Grey) in the police station.

The fact that Garth's first words in the scene are "drugs" says all you need to know about the guy - he's an hilariously strung-out stoner who certainly looks like he's been on a days-long bender, trashily handsome though he still is.

And while it's easy to joke that Sheen, per his lifelong substance abuse issues, had been preparing for the part recreationally, he actually went in another direction entirely to get ready for shooting.

In order to look appropriately tired and frazzled, Sheen decided to stay awake for 48 hours before filming, and while two days might not sound like much prep time on paper, 48 hours is certainly a lot of time investment for around five minutes of screen time in a movie.

Sheen could've easily just walked on set and let the makeup department do the hard work, but instead he subjected himself to two days of mental torture in order to look as realistically "wasted" as possible.
