10 Actors Who Spent FOREVER Preparing For Tiny Movie Roles
2. Channing Tatum - Hail, Caesar!
The Coen brothers crammed one hell of an ensemble cast into their period comedy Hail, Caesar!, though the trade-off was that most of the actors involved didn't get too much screen time for themselves.
Case in point, Channing Tatum appears for just a few brief scenes in the film as actor-dancer Burt Gurney, with his screen time totalling around eight minutes in all.
And the bulk of Tatum's role involves an elaborate song-and-dance routine - while wearing a sailor uniform, no less - for which Tatum put in a phenomenal level of prep.
Though Tatum had a background in dance, he had no experience with the tap dancing required for the scene, and told Vulture that he spent "about three months" training and rehearsing for the sequence. He said:
"It's the most I've ever prepped for a six-minute section in a movie... When I'm nervous about something, I drill it to a point that is probably unhealthy, but as long as it works even halfway, I'm happy at the end of the tortuous day."
The end result is certainly impressive and entertaining, though few directors beyond the Coens could muster this much commitment from an actor for a single scene.
