It's no secret that the best days of Arnold Schwarzenegger's career are behind him, where he can command numerous colossal paydays per year and his movies will routinely gross fat stacks of cash.

Last year Arnie didn't appear in any movies at all, which honestly might be preferable to the two indie flops he starred in this year. First up is Aftermath, a modest dramatic thriller which failed to make the most of Schwarzenegger's earnest performance, scoring mixed reviews and making barely 5% of its budget back at the box office.

Then there's Killing Gunther, a mockumentary comedy in which Arnie plays a notoriously hard-to-kill assassin...though only appears in the movie for about 15 minutes. He's clearly having fun for his brief screen time, but overall it's a low-effort caper that didn't wow critics and didn't even get a theatrical release in most territories.

Of course, Arnie has enough money at this stage in his career where he can afford to take risks and not really care about the box office, but it's still a shame that his only two movies from the last two years felt so damn inconsequential.

Arnie will appear in the Chinese adventure film Viy 2: Journey to China next year, though it's best not to expect more than a cameo, and he'll also begin shooting the sixth Terminator movie for a 2019 release, but in terms of interesting, original roles, 2018's looking like another barren year for the action legend.
