10 Actors Who Tried Way Too Hard To Be Edgy

2. Jared Leto - Suicide Squad

Very little embodies the terms "edgy" and "trying way too hard" than Jared Leto's unbearable presence in 2016's Suicide Squad, or Justice League For Juggalos, as it's known in some circles. The film itself is bad enough, showcasing unfunny attempts at humour, painfully forgettable characters an inconsequential story, but it's Leto's performance that serves as the most misguided element of the comic adaptation.

Leto, seemingly convinced that the only way to top Heath Ledger's award-winning performance as the character in The Dark Knight was to act like an attention-seeking child, gave easily the worst performance of his career. Chewing the scenery and apparently intentionally trying to overshadow everyone else on screen, he was unwatchable. It was also widely reported that his off-camera behaviour was also erratic and insufferable, refusing to break character and engaging in (what he saw as) Joker-like antics such as having dead animals delivered to the cast and crew, along with anal beads and used condoms.

Leto then had the gall to declare feeling "alienated and upset" by Joaquin Phoenix's casting as Arthur Fleck, as if he deserved sole rights to a character that has been around for almost 80 years. What a class act.
