10 Actors Who Turned Down Billion Dollar Movies
3. Matt Damon - Avatar
As the title of this article suggests, all ten actors here, for one reason or another, turned down the opportunity to appear in a billion-dollar movie. Matt Damon took this one step further however, and with it turned down the offer of 10% of the box office intake.
Unfortunately, the film in question for the Jason Bourne actor was Avatar, and that 10% kickback would have equated to a staggering $250 million. Even Damon himself concedes that this may have been the largest sum an actor has ever declined.
When James Cameron offered him the role, Matt Damon still had a lot of work to do on the Bourne film he was working on at the time, and because he didn't want to leave the project early and leave the production in the lurch right at the last, he rejected Avatar. Quite noble when you consider that he was desperate to work with the acclaimed director.
The idea has since been floated for Damon to have a cameo appearance in one of the upcoming three Avatar sequels, which Cameron would welcome with open arms, but in regards to the actor still receiving 10% of the box office, his thoughts were best not printed for polite company. Suffice to say, the first word of his two word response began with an F.
