10 Actors Who Went Undercover For Famous Movie Roles
9. Margot Robbie Goes Conservative On Twitter - Bombshell
Not every type of undercover acting mission involves a star donning a wig and putting on a fake accent. Some forms of secret research can be found in as subtle a place as social media. Not a sentence you're going to hear every day, admittedly.
When embodying the role of fictional associate producer Kayla Popsil, one of the women who expose Fox News CEO Roger Ailes for his instances of sexual harassment in Bombshell, Margot Robbie decided that she needed to really understand how millennial conservative women ticked.
So, the Australian actor decided to hop onto Twitter under a covert handle and do some snooping and interacting with various other conservative women. Robbie explained that she struggled to understand Popsil's point of view, largely because she hadn't grown up with in the same place as her:
"I was struggling to understand that point of view for a while, and Twitter ended up being the most useful tool. Because people are extremely vocal on Twitter."
Along with this undercover tweeting spell, Robbie also immersed herself in Fox News, studying shows that she felt Kayla would've been a fan of when trying to add authentic layers to her eventually lauded performance.
