10 Actors Who Were Wasted In Their Franchise Return

6. Arnold Schwarzenegger - Terminator Genisys

After 2009's Terminator Salvation became the worst rated film in the entire series (at that point), it was clear there was only one man who could save this dying franchise.

Arnold Schwarzenegger was soon signed up to return alongside Emilia Clarke's Sarah Connor and happier days for the once glorious series were surely on the horizon.

Yet, despite drafting in the heaviest hitter the Terminator series has ever seen, 2015's Genisys made Salvation's 33% Rotten Tomatoes score look like a decent rating.

No amount of 'I'll be back's or fights between old-Arnie and new-Arnie could save this flick from feeling like anything more than a waste of Schwarzenegger's and the paying audience's time.

It's no surprise that the series completely ignored Terminator 3: Rise of the Machines, Salvation and Genisys with 2019's James Cameron produced Dark Fate. This move, along with the overall reception to the feature, helped restore some respect to the Terminator brand and gave Arnie (and Linda Hamilton) the return we wished we'd seen a few years earlier.

If only the Aliens and Avatar director was brought back on board sooner. Perhaps then we could have been saved the sight of Schwarzenegger's T-800 being made to smile like an absolute lunatic.
