Steven Spielberg returning to helm another Indiana Jones story, nearly two decades after the character rode off into the sunset in 1989's The Last Crusade, should have set the stage for a triumphant return to form for Harrison Ford.

However, about midway through 2008's Kingdom of the Crystal Skull it became clear that this outing paled in comparison to the trilogy of heart-stopping adventures which preceded it.

Dropping Ford's Jones into a story which saw him surviving nuclear blasts by hiding in a fridge, watching his son swing with monkeys through the jungle and discovering aliens was never going to go down well with fans of the other flicks. It was so far removed from what made fans fall in love with character it makes you wonder what Spielberg and George Lucas were thinking (or smoking).

What should have been a triumphant return for Ford in one of his most iconic roles, quickly turned into an experience he'd likely want to forget.

Ford has since signed on to return as Jones yet again in an upcoming Indiana Jones 5 project, with Spielberg moving into the producers chair. Let's hope that whenever that project hits screens in the future, the legendary actor is kept as far away from interdimensional beings as humanly possible or that'll be two wasted returns in a row for 'Indi'.
