10 Actors Who Were Wasted In Their Franchise Return
2. Laura Dern - Jurassic Park III
Ellie Sattler was a shining example of how a woman could kick just as much dino-ass as her male counterparts while still being the smartest person in the room throughout Steven Spielberg's prehistoric hit Jurassic Park (1993).
So, after leaving Jeff Goldblum and Julianne Moore to star in The Lost World: Jurassic Park (1997), fans were overjoyed to see Laura Dern return to the franchise with Sam Neil in Jurassic Park III.
However, unlike Neil, who spends most of the movie trying to survive the once-extinct creatures on Isla Sorna, Dern only briefly appears on two occasions in the lacklustre sequel.
She has dinner with Neil's Dr. Alan Grant - discussing everyone's favourite dinner-time topic: Velociraptors - and is later contacted by Grant as the group are being attacked by the film's big bad Spinosaurus.
Her actions may lead to the group being saved in the end, but fans hoping to see Sattler accompany Grant on his travels to the dino-infested island were no doubt left feeling disappointed when they realised the iconic character had been all but left out of this adventure.
Like Goldblum and Neil, she'll be returning in Jurassic World: Dominion, so hopefully this means she'll get another chance to be the bad-ass Sattler we last saw in 1993.
