10 Actors Who Will Never Escape Their Doctor Who Roles
3. Tom Baker
Would anybody care for a jelly baby? That's a question that has no doubt haunted Tom Baker since he stepped down as the longest serving Time Lord back in 1981. Portraying one of the world's most iconic sci-fi heroes for an unrivalled 7 years is certainly one way to go down in TV history and the Fourth Doctor is still widely cited as the character's most beloved incarnation. The genuine article, you might say. As it turns out, that is both a blessing and a curse. His real life alter ego has made no secret of the fact that he probably enjoyed his tenure aboard the TARDIS a bit too much, which is partly why he remained at its helm for so long. He has also admitted that nothing in his career has even come close to replicating the unequivocal joy that comes with being the coveted defender of the universe, but at least he can take comfort in the fact that he continues to give said joy to fans both new and old. Besides, if you're going to be remembered for anything, it might as well be as the definitive Doctor Who.
