10 Actors Who Will Ruin 2019 Films
3. Aubrey Plaza - Child's Play
In the upcoming remake nobody asked for of the classic horror film Child's Play, Aubrey Plaza will play young Andy Barclay's (Gabriel Bateman) mother Karen.
It's a puzzling casting choice for many reasons, namely that Plaza is the last actress in the world you should hire to play a loving, concerned mother.
And as talented as she proven herself to be in the dramatic likes of Legion and Ingrid Goes West, she just feels like a totally off fit for a role like this.
Sure, it's possible the new movie will strike a more surreal tone and reinvent Karen as a more sarcastic, quippy mother to Andy, but still, didn't her dour shtick start to feel tired years ago?
The biggest frustration with Plaza's involvement, ultimately, is that she would've been a far more interesting fit to actually voice Chucky himself - or in this case, herself.
Given that competing with Brad Dourif's portrayal of the killer doll is a thankless task anyway, why not go in a totally new direction and make Chucky a woman?
Now that is something Plaza would be perfect for. As the mother, though? Tough to picture it working.
