After fans recovered from the surprising news that a fifth Indiana Jones movie is in the works starring a mid-seventies Harrison Ford, the question soon arose: would Shia LaBeouf be returning as Indy's obnoxious son Mutt Williams?

Screenwriter David Koepp confirmed last year that no, Mutt nor LaBeouf would be returning for Indiana Jones 5, presumably due to both the negative audience reception to the character in Kingdom of the Crystal Skull and LaBeouf straight-up trashing the film during its press tour.

What It Means For The Film:

It's not easy to be optimistic about a fifth Indy movie, but this is definitely a good decision in every sense.

LaBeouf wasn't fond of Kingdom of the Crystal Skull and has pretty much disappeared from blockbuster filmmaking these days, while audiences don't want to see him in the franchise, and this way nobody on the production has to deal with the awkwardness of bringing him back after he disparaged the last one. Good call.
