10 Actors Who Won't Be Coming Back For Upcoming Sequels
3. Julie Andrews - Mary Poppins Returns
Though the role of Mary Poppins has been understandably recast for the new movie - Emily Blunt now plays the iconic, magical nanny - most fans still expected to see original star Julie Andrews make some sort of cameo appearance in the film.
However, Andrews confirmed last year that she actually turned down a cameo role, with director Rob Marshall explaining, "Julie was incredibly gracious, and we talked about it in a very general way but she made it clear right up front. She said, 'This is Emily’s show, and I really want it to be Emily’s show. I don’t want it to be, 'Oh, here comes that Mary Poppins.' I don’t want that. I really want her to take this and run with it, because she will be brilliant.'"
What It Means For The Film:
It would've been a fun moment, no question, but it's hard not to respect Andrews' decision to step back and let Emily Blunt have the stage to herself. Hopefully this is indicative of the entire movie not leaning too eagerly on nostalgia, even if that's understandably going to be a significant aspect of the movie's appeal.
