10 Actors Who Won't Be Coming Back For Upcoming Sequels

8. Sean Young - Blade Runner 2049

Given that Rachel, Sean Young's character in Blade Runner, was a replicant, it seemed incredibly unlikely that the actress would be invited back for the upcoming sequel Blade Runner 2049. Because... well, replicants don't age, do they?

That hasn't stopped Young - who has emerged as a rather controversial figure in recent years for her outspoken (and occasionally drunken) opinions - from asking fans to boycott the film if she wasn't involved. You can kind of understand her turmoil, of course: she was a major element in the original sci-fi classic, so it must hurt somewhat to have been left out of the follow-up, all these years later.

But even Young must realise that, even if they wanted her for the sequel, it wouldn't make any sense to see Rachel in her late fifties. Granted, they found a way for Harrison Ford to make a comeback, even though the director's cut of the movie strongly insists on his replicant status. Nonetheless, Deckard might have been a replicant, whereas Rachel certainly was one.

What It Means For The Film:

It means a better film, probably, given that having Rachel back would have almost certainly appeared shoe-horned and unnecessary in the wake of the ending of the original movie. There is no believable way the studio could have made it work.
