10 Actors Who Won't Be Coming Back For Upcoming Sequels

4. Rooney Mara/Daniel Craig - The Girl In The Spider's Web

Rooney Mara spent years trying to get a sequel to David Fincher's The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo off the ground, but nothing came of her attempts. Just when it seemed like it might happen, the infamous Sony leaks occurred and - with the stepping down of exec Amy Pascal - the project vanished into the abyss, seemingly forever.

Then came the announcement of an adaptation of The Girl in the Spider's Web, which is actually the fourth book in the Millennium series. Wondering whether Mara's efforts had finally paid off, suddenly it was stated that neither Mara or her co-star Daniel Craig would be back, regardless of the fact that the movie is still being pushed as a sequel to the original and is being developed by the same studio.

In defence of the decision to recast both the leads, director Fede Alvarez - known for his horror exploits - said: "It’s said that 50% of the director’s work is casting. If I’d just take Fincher’s (amazing) casting, I wouldn’t be doing half of my job. We’ve got a great script and now comes the most fun part - finding our Lisbeth."

What It Means For The Film:

Did anybody stop to tell Alvarez that the studio already has a willing Lisbeth in its grasp, one who was nominated for an Oscar for playing the role? Very silly, Sony, as the film is bound to suffer by comparison. It's going to be incredibly tricky to find an actress as good as Mara to play Lisbeth. Not a good decision at all, this one.
