2. Willem Dafoe: The Green Goblin/Norman Osborn in Spider-Man (2002)

An Oscar winner known for playing strong, often unusual, roles, and with a memorable look. You wouldnt call him classically handsome, but he is undeniably cinematic and charismatic. Spider-Man had an excellent all-round cast, and Tobey Maguire made a perfect Peter Parker, but superhero films do need someone big to fill the villains shoes, and Dafoe did that admirably. In many ways, it was a shame when he was the Green Goblin, because when he was Norman Osborn, he was the best thing in the scene. Its hard to know if Norman Osborn was always mad, or if the performance-enhancing drugs pushed him into madness, because Dafoe plays the character as though theres always something scratching away under the veneer of control. Theres a constant boiling energy to Dafoe that is worthy of the Goblins character. And without a great villain, there cant be a great hero.
