The Project
Little is known about Michael Showalter's (The Big Sick), The Eyes Of Tammy Faye, other than that it stars Andrew Garfield and Jessica Chastain as Jim and Tammy Faye Bekker as a couple who are looking for redemption after their marriage and religious empire falls apart.
It's based on the 2000 documentary of the same name and there's certainly a compelling story there.
Why It's Make Or Break
The former Peter Parker looked as if he was destined to become one of the Acadamy's new darlings after the impressive, Oscar nominated turn as a conscientious objector in the thick of WWII in Mel Gibson's Hackshaw Ridge and further acclaim as a priest searching for his mentor in Martin Scorsese's Silence.
How then has he been allowed to drift off into the ether?
He is fiercely talented and possesses a range that most actors would kill to have at their disposal but for whatever reason, his recent choices have been... odd. In 2017 played a man, struck by polio at 28, who is given mere months to live but fights this adversity to live a fulfilling life with his wife and son in this Andy Serkis directed drama. It's not that the film was bad, it just didn't tear up any roots.
The same can be said of Under The Silver Lake, released last year. It has its audience, as an edgy, bizarre take on a conspiracy film but you probably hadn't heard of it unless you accidentally stumbled upon it one night on Amazon Prime. Garfield could be the shining light of his generation but he needs to start producing and that starts with The Eyes Of Tammy Faye.
