10 Actors You Won't Believe Have Never Been Nominated For An Oscar

3. Kevin Bacon

Although Kevin Bacon's diverse body of work has kept the game Six Degrees of Kevin Bacon thriving for twenty years, he's surprisingly yet to be Oscar-nominated. He spent an inordinate amount of time trying to shed the image of Footloose's Ren McCormack and has emerged as a brilliant character actor. Like many in this article, he's now found regular work on TV (in the divisive but popular The Following), but if he doesn't find his way back to film an Honorary Oscar would be more than appropriate. Bacon's co-stars Sean Penn and Tim Robbins were both lauded by the Academy in 2003 for their roles in Mystic River, but his more restrained performance was unacknowledged. Cases could also be made for Murder in the First (1995) and most convincingly The Woodsman (2004), in which Bacon plays decidedly against type as a convicted child molester. He does have a tendency to ham it up in blockbuster fare, but his best is more than good enough for Oscar contention.
