10 Actors You Didn't Expect To Be Cast As Serial Killers

2. Tony Curtis as Albert De Salvo in 'The Boston Strangler'

The Boston Strangler has come to be seen as the drop off point for Curtis' career as after it he went back to the standard of movie and TV appearances that he started out with in his career. But if it was his last hurrah he certainly proved to any doubters of his talent that he had acting chops. Curtis had had huge success in comedy, with 'Some Like it Hot,' and had paraded around many times as a generic Hollywood hunk so when he pushed for the part of real-life serial killer Albert De Salvo in the 'The Boston Strangler' he had his detractors, particularly in the film's production chief Richard Zanuck. But after all was said and done Curtis' performance instantly generated Oscar buzz and cemented his status as a genuinely talented actor.

Although he won a golden globe and rave reviews for his performance he was overlooked when the Oscar nominations came around. However it stands as testament to the the commitment of Curtis to his craft and really as an indicator of how a great actor can turn your image of them on it's head.
