In addition to being one of the most boundary-pushing musical artists of her generation, Lady Gaga is also an impressively talented actress, with a Best Actress Oscar nomination to her name for A Star Is Born, and a Golden Globe win for her performance in American Horror Story.

Gaga's provocative musical performances have however gotten her in hot water with the authorities of several countries.

In 2012, Gaga had to cancel a show in Jakarta, Indonesia because despite selling all 50,000 tickets available, lawmakers denied her a permit to perform amid pressure from conservative groups, who felt her sexualised performances had a "corrupting" power over the nation's youth.

With some groups even making physical threats against Gaga, the local government not only banned her from performing in the country but also strongly advised her not to come there, for fear that they couldn't guarantee her safety.

Gaga was also banned from China after meeting with the Dalai Lama in 2016, with the Communist Party of China's propaganda department blacklisting her and the sale of her music shortly after the meeting took place.
