Probably the most unexpected (but historically speaking, most inevitable) entry listed here, it's recently been claimed that character actor Jim Caviezel will return to his most famous and most challenging role as Jesus of Nazareth in the forthcoming The Passion of the Christ sequel "Resurrection".

Probably the most legitimate candidate for a character revival in terms of established series canon, Caviezel's Jesus was last seen dying for our sins on the cross in Apocalypto helmer Mel Gibson's surprise 2004 blockbuster, the gritty and extraordinarily bloody The Passion of the Christ.

With America's faith based film phenomenon showing no sign of slowing down it should come as no surprise that Gibson's film is receiving a belated sequel. However few of those flicks carry the hard R rating Gibson's brutal vision earned, so only time will tell whether the flick can recreate the crossover success of the uniquely striking original.
