10 Actors You Forgot Had Minor Roles In War Movies

6. Tom Hiddleston + Benedict Cumberbatch - War Horse

Although Loki and Doctor Strange haven't had much contact in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, their awkward encounter in Thor: Ragnarok highlighted they are anything but friends. Ironically, their acting counterparts, Tom Hiddleston and Benedict Cumberbatch respectively, played the best of pals when they appeared together in Steven Spielberg's War Horse, which is based on the novel and play of the same name.

After the titular colt, Joey, is acquired by the British Army to be used in World War II, he's purchased by Captain James Nicholls, who's portrayed by Tom Hiddleston. Benedict Cumberbatch plays Nicholls' mate, Jamie Stewart - the major who initiates the surprise attack on the German encampment.

Even though the actors were reasonably well-known in the UK when War Horse premiered, they were far from Hollywood stardom. Despite the fact the MCU helped redefine their careers (and Hiddleston played Loki for the first time the same year War Horse premiered), the pair weren't household names just yet. The fact that neither actor appeared on the poster or the trailers is another reason why their performances in War Horse usually slip moviegoers' minds.
