10 Actors You Probably Forgot Were In Sci-Fi Movies

1. Judi Dench - The Chronicles Of Riddick (2004)

Judi Dench is something approaching acting royalty, a status largely earned through playing members of the British Royal family on several occasions over the years.

She’s played Queen Victoria, twice, and even bagged an Oscar for playing Queen Elizabeth I in Shakespeare in Love in a role that amounted to eight minutes of screen time in total.

Royalty aside, Dench is probably best known for her stint as M during both Pierce Brosnan and Daniel Craig’s reigns as James Bond.

One role that has gone largely overlooked on her filmography, however, is that of Aereon in the frankly baffling Pitch Black sequel The Chronicles of Riddick.

An overly-elaborate big budget follow-up, that seemingly missed the point of what exactly made the low-fi original so appealing, the sequel is steeping in Riddick-led mythology which, despite some fine action set pieces, ends up dragging proceedings down.

Dench's haracter is something called an Air Elemental, a type of alien who can see into the future and appears in the film as little more than a plot device to explain the already convoluted goings-on.

Still, the fact that Diesel and Dench appeared alongside each other is amusing enough.
