10 Actors You Probably Forgot Were In Sci-Fi Movies

2. Tina Turner - Mad Max Beyond Thunderdome (1985)

From a marketing standpoint, the presence of Tina Turner in Mad Max Beyond Thunderdome made perfect sense. Arriving in the era of all-conquering blockbusters, having Turner onboard allowed studio Warner Bros. to harness her obvious talents for the film’s soundtrack.

The resulting song, We Don’t Need Another Hero, remains popular among power ballad fans and has certainly stood the test of time.

It’s not that Beyond Thunderdome is a particularly bad film either. Reviews were largely positive. Most agreed, however, that it represented a backwards step after the frankly brilliant Mad Mad 2: Road Warrior.

Its legacy has also been further eroded by the arrival of 2015’s Mad Mad: Fury Road, a stunning feat in modern action filmmaking.

Turner holds up her end of the bargain though as Aunty Entity, the ruthless ruler of Bartertown, a survivor community powered by pig faeces.

She’s actually very good in what was her first major dramatic role on the big screen. If anything, what’s strange is that it didn’t lead to even more juicy roles in Hollywood.
