9. Edward Norton
When Norton wants to, he can seamlessly disappear into a character and create truly fantastic cinema. He is ethereal in Primal Fear, haunting in American History X, and he plays a caricature of himself in Birdman to an incredibly impressive degree. Understandably, he was nominated for all three performances.
The Fight Club star has appeared in a multitude of films over the years and the three he was nominated for are just some examples of his talents. What might be holding him back from winning an Oscar may be his off screen antics and reputation as a somewhat difficult man to work with. This doesn't always affect people's chances at awards glory but it famously prevented Russell Crowe from picking up a second Oscar for A Beautiful Mind after his bad awards circuit behaviour made the rounds.
That being said, if Norton acts up on the set of The Incredible Hulk, it doesn't necessarily equate to a lack of a win for Birdman. Norton's talents still speak for themselves and he has the skill to be an Oscar winning actor.
