10 Actors You Won't Believe Don't Have Oscars Yet

8. Michelle Williams

Ed Harris Truman Show
Roadside Attractions

An incredibly empathetic performer, Michelle Williams can tap into the core of her characters which makes it easy for her to connect to the audience. She has a tendency to pick parts in which she'll break your heart, allowing her to throw herself into the raw emotions of whatever her role requires.

Her four nominations are for Brokeback Mountain, Blue Valentine, My Week with Marilyn, and Manchester by the Sea. Her grounded and unsentimental take on Marilyn Monroe may be her most prolific performance (it won her a Golden Globe) as she disappears into the troubled star and undeniably captures her essence.

Her most recent nomination in Manchester by the Sea does not allow her a lot of screen time, but she gets credit for being the focus of the best scene in the film as she confronts her former partner and breaks down about their shared tragedy. Whether she is the leading lady or a key supporting player, Michelle Williams will often be the most memorable performer in a project and that is because she's just that good.
