10 Actors You Won’t Believe Don’t Have Oscars

3. Sir Ian McKellen

No, really, Ian McKellen doesn€™t have an Oscar. And while the two films he was nominated for, Gods And Monsters and The Lord Of The Rings: The Fellowship Of The Ring, are both fine pictures, it€™s easy to understand how their unconventional subject matter resulted in him being passed over.

Maybe he spent too many years on stage doing Shakespeare, maybe he devoted some of his prime years to playing Magneto, no matter the case, it doesn€™t appear that he ever gave pursuing an Oscar his undivided attention.

For what it€™s worth, McKellen has spoken out on the issue, suggesting that his open homosexuality may have influenced certain voters. He could just be bitter, but considering how the Oscars have handled minority nominations lately, it€™s not that much of a stretch to believe.

If people want to fight for McKellen to win an award, they better do so soon, because even if he€™s never been more popular, it€™s easy to think that his best years are already well behind him.
