Stay with us on this one. At first glance, the 65 year old, recipient of 18 Academy Award nominations, Meryl Streep, might not be the most obvious choice to bring the female Thor to the big screen; but, there is a particular iteration of the character in the comics that could make for a stellar cinematic story with Streep at the helm. During Jason Aarons tenure on Thor, he created an aged version of Thor who lives in the distant future. This could be fertile creative territory for the Marvel team to with a female version of Thor and there would be no actress more qualified than Streep to instil the part with depth and feeling. The future version of Queen Thor could also provide Marvel with an excuse to adapt one of Thors most famous stories: King Thor. In the story arc, Thor takes over the earth, murdering the Avengers and ruling with an iron fist before realizing the error of his way. The remorseful Thor travels back in time to undo his mistakes. As X-Men: Days of Future Past proved, comic book stories about time travel can be both thrilling and moving. Streep could give an amazing performance as the wizened Thor. As fellow senior-aged thespian, Anthony Hopkins, proved with his dynamic turn as Thors fellow God, Odin, a vaunted actor can bring gravitas to the role of a Norse God.
