Canadian actress Evangeline Lilly first caught audiences attention with her role as Kate Austen in the hit TV series Lost. After a series of turns on the big screen, including a role in the Best Picture-winning The Hurt Locker, Lilly landed a part that made fanboys and fangirls everywhere take notice: the arse-kicking elf Tauriel. Peter Jackson invented the character of Tauriel to help fill out his three part adaptation of J.R. R. Tolkiens The Hobbit. Lilly attacked the role with gusto. With her extremely cold-blood mass murder of a host of ogres and goblins, Tauriel cut a path of destruction straight to the critics and fans hearts. Thanks to her performance, Lilly managed to turn a character that could have come across as bad fan fiction into a certified crowd-pleaser. Lillys performance garnered a Saturn Award nomination for Best Supporting Actress, as well as an Empire Award nomination for Best Supporting Actress. The jump from sword-wielding elf to hammer-wielding thunder Goddess would be a small one for Lilly. Shes already proven she can bring enough panache in her performance to win over the dubious hardcore fan base of a fantasy property, an obstacle any actress taking up the mantle of Thor would have to overcome.
