10 Aging Actors Who Could Totally Pull Off An Action Comeback
4. Russell Crowe
Age: 51 OK, let's be real for a moment: Russell Crowe hasn't really starred in a great film since early career hits like Gladiator and L.A. Confidential. There have been strong displays in middling films, a continued working relationship with Ridley Scott that hasn't really paid off and a singing role in Les Miserables that was attention-grabbing for all the wrong reasons. It's not that Crowe isn't still something of a star - it just seems like he's more famous now for being Russell Crowe, movie personality and awkward interviewee, rather than for being an actor that stars in good work. Virtually everyone agreed Crowe was better in last year's Noah than he had been for years, and that could be seen to be down to Crowe playing to his strengths by getting primal. Provided he's prepared to work for it, Crowe could reclaim the tough guy persona that came with his early roles by stepping into action movies as lead and forgetting, for the moment, that he's an actor who desperately wants to be taken seriously. Crowe's only one year older than energetic John Wick star Keanu Reeves, so he could feasibly make the Russell Crowe: Action Hero goldmine run for years.
Lover of film, writer of words, pretentious beyond belief. Thinks Scorsese and Kubrick are the kings of cinema, but PT Anderson and David Fincher are the dashing young princes. Follow Brogan on twitter if you can take shameless self-promotion: @BroganMorris1
