1. Mr. Yunioshi - Breakfast at Tiffany's
I'm not sure there's another singular element out there that has proven itself to be so utterly catastrophic to a movie's reputation, rendering something that could well have been considered "classic" into some horribly dated, inarguable racist and utterly ridiculous oddity. Breakfast at Tiffany's is still thought to be a good movie but most people, and perhaps it is - but a great movie? I don't see how that's at all possible with Mr. Yunioshi stuck within its frames. So let's discuss the moment in question: the one where Mickey Rooney, dressed in what can only be described as "yellowface makeup" (including traditional buckteeth, don't you know?) makes his first appearance as Japanese pervert Mr. Yunioshi, existing only to remind you that Breakfast at Tiffany's is more of a awkward relic than the prestigious motion picture that its name suggests. I know, I know: this wasn't deemed all that bad at the time, but that's hardly an excuse, is it? Mr. Yunioshi pops up at a number of pointless throughout the flick, but that first time he emerges speaking in - yes - "Engrish" will stay with you forever. In the least enjoyable way imaginable.
