I really have a soft spot in my heart for child actors who grow into adult actors and have a good head on their shoulders. I freely admit that. But come on, is there anything that Joseph Gordon-Levitt can't do? He sings, he dances, he acts, he directs. He does pretty much whatever he wants to do whenever he wants to do it, and I respect that. He's worked hard for his career, struggling to be taken seriously as a legitimate actor after his child star work on Third Rock from the Sun (I still love his portrayal of Tommy, an old man in a teenage body, though, don't get me wrong). What's impressed me is that he's always seemed to push himself to step out of the box, so as far as I'm concerned he deserves a little bit of creative latitude. I think he has a really good sense of where actors really fall in terms of significance -- he once brought up the fact that actors used to be put in the same category as prostitutes, and that there are plenty of other careers that contribute a lot more to society. That's probably why he doesn't seem to have much of an ego, despite his success.
