10 Already Released 2015 Horror Films You Should Watch This Halloween

2. It Follows

Lauded by critics on its February release and proving a surprising box office heavyweight in America, It Follows is perhaps the most buzzed about horror film of 2015. David Robert Mitchell's film is a dreamlike homage to the sexually-charged scary movies of the 70s and 80s, given genuine chill potential as a result of its killer central conceit. Add on top of that an impressive synthy score from electronica wunderkind Disasterpeace and there's the recipe for a great Halloween frightfest. The film stars Maika Monroe as an innocent teenage girl who finds herself cursed when she has sex with her boyfriend in the back of his car. He explains that she will now be followed by a shape-shifting supernatural entity intent on killing her, until she has sex with someone else to pass the curse on to its next host. It Follows takes what could potentially have been a rather pulpy premise and infects it with an arthouse sensibility. With a few notable exceptions, Mitchell avoids pelting the audience with jump scares and instead works in long, almost stationary shots. He trains the audience to search the corners of frames and treat every human in the film with suspicion. It's a wonderful film that deserves the plaudits it received as one of the best horror films of recent years.
